One of the delights of the
Christines and Coy's Historic Festival at Silverstone were the superb programme
covers that featured the work of Craig Warwick. His montages of great racing
champions and their cars demonstrated the elusive combination of
draughtsmanship and distillation of his subjects' characters that has long been
the hallmark of any Craig Warwick canvas. For many years, these paintings, in a
blend of watercolour and gouache, were the perfect introduction to an artist of
phenomenal range, whose work is highly sought after on both sides of the
Atlantic.

BIO Continued
Lancashire -
born, Craig Warwick was fascinated by motor sport from an early age;
particularly the pairing of drivers and their cars. He studied Fine Art and
Graphic Design at the Royal Academy West of England College of Art in Bristol,
where his intuitive and sensitive style was developed.
His many
commissions have include Ferrari UK, for whom he painted a montage of 40 years
of Maranello Concessionaires; Maserati UK for the 75th anniversary of the
marque; and ITV to celebrate the retirement of commentator Murray Walker.
Montages of drivers, personalities and cars have been a particular Warwick
strength, demonstrating a coherence that few others manage to archive. Melding
the aesthetics of the Gurney Eagle Weslake of 1967 with it's driver/constructor
won Craig the 2002 Amelia Island Concours d'Eleglance Award at the Automotive
Fine Arts Society (AFAS) exhibition. The range of Craiig Warwick's work is
exceptionally wide. His most recent work where the the classic styling of a
Alfa Romeo, Bugatti or Ferrari is complemented by wistfully beautiful models,
represents a new and successful departure for this unique artist. |
